A special project - Fireflies – is being actively prepared to be part of ASSITEJ International, Scènes d’enfance – ASSITEJ France and Théâtre Massalia, the 2025 artistic meeting, "Bright Generations – Générations Lumineuses." But all over France, Fireflies are also announcing this major event to the public. The Fédération des Lucioles (the Federation of Fireflies) is a project imagined by the artists on the board of directors of Scènes d’enfance – ASSITEJ France. Every day since September 19, in a cultural venue in France, we celebrate the vitality of performing arts for young audiences, and the commitment of all in putting children at the heart of our actions. Before a show, we read a text specially written by Catherine Verlaguet: it talks about a child who goes to a show for the first time and who comes out of it moved, touched, different… We share this moment with the young spectators and others, we light a firefly imagined for the occasion, we pass it on to those who will take over the next day. This Grand Tour of the Fireflies began at the Ministry of Culture on September 19 and will end with a Flight of the Fireflies on March 20 from all the participating locations, for the World Day of Theatre for Children and Young People. Then, on March 23, a parade of the Fireflies will conclude the opening ceremony of "Bright Generations – Générations Lumineuses." We hope that many of you will share it with us. We are very excited about this next gathering of our ASSITEJ community, during which 19 shows will be presented and about fifty activities in the professional program. This part is currently still being developed, but you can already go to the website france2025.assitejonline.org to see the program of shows, buy a pass and organize your visit. ASSITEJ International, Scènes d’Enfance – ASSITEJ France, we are mobilized to prepare for your stay and continue to refine the international meeting. An online program will be offered to those who cannot make the trip. In the meantime in France, small fireflies imagined and launched by children testify to the importance of art and culture for their development and that of all. It is joyful. But, at the end of this year, in several countries around the world, children are deprived of it, some suffer from war and some die from it. I want to dedicate to them the Firefly that will be lit in Marseille on January 30, on the occasion of the official announcement of "Bright Generations." Lire en français> Leer en español>

| | Danced Postcards | | Scènes d'enfance - ASSITEJ France As you know, we are actively preparing for our upcoming artistic gathering in Marseille: "Bright Generations". While we were building our opening ceremony, it became really important to us to invite children from all around the world to join us. How? Through "danced postcards" from children of your country, which you will send us in video files.
We ask you to find a professional artist, dancer, or choreographer who would like to respond to this invitation with a group of children, connect this artist with the group, and film their danced response (maximum 1 minute, in landscape format). We will then edit all these videos together so that they can be broadcast throughout the artistic gathering and during the opening ceremony. Deadline: 30 January 2025 More information> Lire en français> |
| | Endline Evaluation for ASSITEJ BCR Project | | In 2022, ASSITEJ International appointed Dr Richard Johnson Sallis and Dr Jennifer Andersen from The Univeristy of Melbourne in Australia as external evaluators to assist the Executive Committee and Secretariat staff to examine to what extent the development of its network is building the collective resilience of the global Theatre & Performing Arts for Young Audiences sector. They have produced an endline evaluation of the project, which acts both as means of validating the accuracy of the project’s self-reporting as well as offering an independent assessment of progress towards network development goals. The SHIFT CULTURE project is lead by Creative Carbon Scotland, and it is a very inspiring approach for ASSITEJ. But Creative Carbon Scotland offers other inspiration, through its library, that our community can have access to.

| | Theatre & Dance with Children as Artistic Partners | | TYA/USA Amanda Pintore’s book offers a methodological framework for developing research-based Theatre and Dance for the Very Young performances in which artists collaborate with children ages 0-6 and their caregivers and/or educators as creative partners in the process. It provides a detailed investigation of all stages of the work including: designing and executing a creative research plan, analyzing tools for assessment, using research results as the foundation of a devising process, and outcomes for final performances for this age range. This process reflects on years of creative research with very young children, the results of which include methods for building collaborative performances with a variety of institutions such as early childhood centers, universities, community spaces, and non-profit arts organizations. The main themes addressed in this book are innovative methods for devising and collaboration, the translation of research into performance, and the integral bonds between early childhood development and artistic experiences. by Nishna Mehta | | In Conversation with: Faaiqah Alkaff from Hello, How Do You Move?, Singapore | | Since I walked into the Abdala Cultural Centre Conference Room at Marti Theater on 30th May at 10 am, I kept thinking “Hmm where have I seen this SgSL interpreter before?” Turns out, she was also one of the interpreters at the Singapore Drama Educators Association’s Theatre Arts Conference 2023 where I presented too and saw Rachel Nip’s presentation about the same collective with a breathtaking performance by their Co-director and Performer Ammar Ameezy. After Faaiqah and Rachel’s inspiring presentation about two of their participatory theatre pieces “Watch Me Watch You” and “What Was That?”, we chatted with Faaiqah. Read/watch the full interview> |
